{"id":10735,"date":"2020-08-26T21:53:17","date_gmt":"2020-08-27T01:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/anthrop\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=10735"},"modified":"2024-09-18T11:51:11","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T15:51:11","slug":"gana-ndiaye","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/anthrop\/profile\/gana-ndiaye\/","title":{"rendered":"Gana Ndiaye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Graduated Summer 2022<\/p>\n<h3>Research Interests<\/h3>\n<p><span>Brazil, migration, transnational Islam, Ajami, African languages, race &amp; ethnicity<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>About<\/h3>\n<p>Gana Ndiaye\u2019s academic interests include migration, transnational Islam, Ajami literature,\u00a0African languages, race and ethnicity, and Francophone film and cinema.<\/p>\n<p>His research focuses on the social and intellectual activism of West African Muslim migrants in Brazil, specifically the followers of the Muridiyya Sufi order. He examines the ways in which African migrants showcase their Muslim identities, expand meanings of \u201cAfricanness,\u201d and contribute to a revival of Black Muslim heritage in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>Gana describes himself as an academic migrant. Prior to joining BU, Gana lived and studied in Morocco, France, Belgium, and Brazil. Upon graduating from Ecole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure of Dakar (currently FASTEF), Gana worked as high school teacher and then in secondary school administration for the Senegalese Ministry of Education. Gana earned B.A. in English Studies from Mohammed I University (Morocco), a M.Sc. in Intercultural Mediation: Identities, Mobility and Conflicts from KU Leuven, Belgium, a M.A. in French Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University.<\/p>\n<h3>Awards<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Angela J. and James J.
