READ: Prof Cheryl Knott and PhD alum Andrea DiGiorgio’s chapter in new book “How Primates Eat”
Professor Cheryl Knott and PhD alum Andrea DiGiorgio co-authored chapter 7 in a new book from the University of Chicago Press: How Primates Eat: A Synthesis of Nutritional Ecology across a Mammal Order.
From DiGirogio about the book:
Exciting news!! After working on a chapter with Dr. Cheryl Knott for 7 years, this book is finally coming out!
When Cheryl offered me the opportunity to work on this, we assumed the chapter would be my first publication. I graduated with it still in limbo, and she and I have made numerous revisions to the chapter, including having 1 month to update it with the 4 years of new literature that had come into existence while the project was stalled. During the time we’ve been working on this, I’ve started a new job and 3 new research programs, while Cheryl’s site, research, and conservation efforts have grown exponentially. So while this isn’t my first publication, I am VERY EXCITED to see it out in the world and hope you are too!
Yay for Chapter 7!!!! And for the whole book, whose editors worked so very hard to bring into existence.
Fun fact: those of you who know me will laugh about this. During the first round of revisions, we got (what I think was a template) a reminder to include strepshirrines (lemurs and lorises, for the non-primate people) in our chapter, not just apes and monkeys (which we study, and which get way more press.) Since lemurs and lorises are among my favorite primates, you can bet the chapter was full of data on them. I not only professed my love for the strepshirrines, but also included a well-colored figure demonstrating that we had included all clades evenly.
