{"id":3980,"date":"2020-03-17T22:16:42","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T02:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/?page_id=3980"},"modified":"2020-03-17T22:30:19","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T02:30:19","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Amyloidosis Center<\/strong>\u00a0at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center is recognized internationally as a leader in basic and clinical research on amyloidosis and related diseases.\u00a0 <a title=\"Vaishali Sanchorawala, M.D.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/vaishali-sanchorawala-m-d\/\">Vaishali Sanchorawala, MD,<\/a> our Director, has been affiliated with the Center since 1994.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our mission is to serve as a:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Referral Center\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/evaluations\/\">Referral center<\/a> for evaluation and treatment of patients with amyloid diseases<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating center for <a title=\"clinical trials\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/research\/trials\/\">clinical trials<\/a> and <a title=\"laboratory research\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/research\/laboratory-research\/\">laboratory research<\/a> on systemic amyloidosis.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Reference laboratory\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/diagnostics\/\">Reference laboratory<\/a> for amyloid pathology and molecular diagnostics<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Resource\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/what\/\">Resource<\/a>\u00a0for information on amyloidosis for patients and their families, physicians, and scientists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Amyloidosis Center coordinates the multidisciplinary evaluation of patients with amyloidosis by subspecialists who are experts in amyloid diseases.\u00a0 The clinical program works closely with the Stem Cell Transplant Program in the Section of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine, directed by <a title=\"Vaishali Sanchorawala, M.D.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/vaishali-sanchorawala-m-d\/\">Vaishali Sanchorawala, MD<\/a>,\u00a0and with the Clinical Trials Office. Trials and treatment are available for all major forms of amyloidosis. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/john-l-berk-m-d\/\">John Berk, MD,<\/a> assistant director, directs clinical trials for the familial forms of amyloidosis, as well as the Airway Clinic.<\/p>\n<p>Activities in the Alan and Sandra Gerry Amyloid Research Laboratory at Boston University School of Medicine are directed by <a title=\"Lawreen Connors, Ph.D.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/amyloid\/lawreen-h-connors-ph-d\/\">Lawreen Connors, PhD<\/a>\u00a0and include the Amyloidosis Reference Laboratory as well as basic research on amyloidosis, in collaboration with other laboratories at Boston University and elsewhere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Amyloidosis Center\u00a0at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center is recognized internationally as a leader in basic and clinical research on amyloidosis and related diseases.\u00a0 Vaishali Sanchorawala, MD, our Director, has been affiliated with the Center since 1994.
