Television Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Queer theory, Feminist Media Studies

My research has focused on representation (gender, sexuality, race, etc.) on television and the ways it coincides with larger culture, specifically with fans and fandoms. I explore the connection between what is produced and circulated among audiences and how that information is processed in larger cultural hierarchies. As of late, my work has become more concerned with the state of the female and reproductive body in relation to sexuality, and how these bodies are portrayed in contemporary media. In the American Studies PhD program, I will continue my work on representational issues on television and film, specifically representations of women, female bodies, reproductive health and female bodily agency.
