We are pleased to announce that Jesse Dritz and Genna Kane, two American Studies PhD students, have received General Awards from the\u00a0<\/span>Public Humanities Fund<\/span><\/a>, which was newly established in 2024. These awards are given by American Studies to students currently enrolled in its PhD program. They support projects that have a public-facing element or might plausibly have one in the future. The inaugural Public Humanities Fund Committee was made up of American Studies Affiliate Faculty Sarah Phillips (History), Ross Barrett (History of Art & Architecture), and William Huntting Howell (English). <\/span><\/p>\n

Genna Kane\u2019s<\/span><\/a>\u00a0supported dissertation project<\/span>,\u00a0recently featured in BU\u2019s research magazine\u00a0The Brink<\/a>, is entitled \u201cConstructing the Waterfront: Property, Power, and the Making of Modern Boston.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Jesse Dritz<\/span><\/a>, who currently holds a pre-doctoral fellow at the Smithsonian Institution, received support for her dissertation,\u00a0\u201cPhotography\u2019s Other Workshops: Crafting Community Photojournalism in American High Schools, 1967-1989.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n
