Brooke Blower<\/a><\/strong>‘s (Associate Professor of History) new book Americans in a World at War: Intimate Histories from the Crash of Pan Am’s Yankee Clipper<\/em><\/a> was released by Oxford University Press.<\/p>\n

Kim Sichel<\/strong><\/a>‘s (Associate Professor of History of Art & Architecture) new book\u00a0Making Strange: The Modernist Photobook in France<\/em><\/a> was released by Yale University Press.<\/p>\n

William D. Moore <\/strong><\/a>(Program Director)\u00a0has contributed a chapter, entitled \u201c<\/span>Solomon’s Temple in America: Masonic Architecture, Biblical Imagery, and Popular Culture, 1865-1930,\u201d to a new anthology about to be published by Bloomsbury. Freemasonry and the Visual Arts from the Eighteenth Century Forward : Historical and Global Perspectives<\/i><\/a>, which is edited by art historians Reva Wolf and Alexa Luxenberg and will be released in November, breaks new ground in examining the impact that the Masonic global brotherhood has had upon a broad range of visual and material culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nina Silber<\/strong><\/a>‘s (Professor of History) new book This War Ain\u2019t Over: Fighting the Civil War in New Deal America<\/em><\/a>\u00a0was released by University of North Carolina Press. She also received the 2019 Gitner Award for Distinguished Teaching from BU\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n

Deborah Jaramillo<\/strong><\/a>‘s (Associate Professor of Film & Television) newest book,\u00a0The Television Code: Regulating the Screen to Safeguard the Industry<\/em><\/a>, has been released by the University of Texas Press.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheryl<\/strong> Boots<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Senior Lecturer of Humanities, College of General Studies, AMNESP PhD 2000) hosted a webinar on September 5, 2018 for the BU Alumni Association entitled “‘Been Down Into the South’: Southern Freedom Movement Freedom Songs & Singers.” It can be viewed here<\/a>. This presentation is based on work she is currently doing for her second book on the songs from the Southern Freedom Movement in the US.<\/p>\n

Mary Battenfeld<\/strong><\/a> (Clinical Professor of American Studies)\u00a0had a letter to the editor concerning the Supreme Court’s ruling on the travel ban in the 6\/27\/18 edition of the New York Times<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Japonica Brown-Saracino<\/strong><\/a> (Associate Professor of Sociology) had her most recent book,\u00a0How Places Make Us: Novel LBQ Identities in Four Small Cities<\/em><\/a>, published by the University of Chicago Press.<\/p>\n

Jan Haenraets<\/strong><\/a> (Professor of the Practice, Preservation Studies)\u00a0participated in the “Conference on Cultural and Natural Heritage Assets as a Driving Force in the Sustainable Development of the Khajuraho Heritage Region” in Madhya Pradesh, India, with keynotes on the role of stakeholders in sustainable development of cultural landscapes, and the heritage assets in the City Development Plans of Khajuraho and Rajnagar. The event was the first international scholarly stakeholders conference for the wider Khajuraho Heritage Region on the process of integration of the assets as an accelerator for sustainable development. It was organized within the context and support of the 2017 UNESCO Year on Sustainable Tourism for Development. Khajuraho is renowned for its Group of Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Royal Gardens of Khajuraho, Rajnagar, Bundelkhand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bruce Schulman<\/strong><\/a>‘s (Huntington Professor of History)\u00a0op-ed “Blue states already subsidize red states. Now red states want even more<\/a>,” which discusses\u00a0what\u2019s really at stake in the current debate over the deduction for state and local taxes, appeared on The Washington Pos<\/em>t\u2019s \u201cMade By History\u201d page.<\/span><\/p>\n

Daniel Bluestone<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Director of Preservation Studies) addressed the current national discussion over Confederate monuments for BU Today<\/a>. He was also recently featured\u00a0in\u00a0Smithsonian Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nina Silber<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Professor of History) also commented on the national monument debate for a Boston Globe<\/a> article, specifically in regards to the only Confederate memorial in Boston.<\/p>\n

Stephen Prothero<\/strong><\/a> (C. Allyn and Elizabeth V. Russell Professor of Religion) was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities\u00a0in their Public Scholars program to aid him in writing a biography of Eugene Exman, a book editor influential in the field of American religion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brooke Blower<\/strong><\/a> (Associate Professor of History) was published in the June 2017 issue of the\u00a0Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations\u2019s journal\u00a0<\/span>Diplomatic History.\u00a0<\/em>Her article is entitled “Nation of Outposts: Forts, Factories, Bases, and the Making of American Power<\/a>.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Ross Barrett<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Assistant Professor of American Art) was awarded the 2016 Frost Essay Award<\/a> by the editorial board of American Art<\/em>, published by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This award is based upon his article “Bursting the Bubble: John Quidor’s ‘Money Diggers’ and Land Speculation<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

William D. Moore<\/strong><\/a> (Director of AMNESP) joined the editorial board of\u00a0Winterthur Portfolio<\/em>, the world’s preeminent journal devoted to interdisciplinary scholarship addressing American material culture.<\/p>\n

Bonnie Costello<\/strong><\/a> (Professor of English) has been named a William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor, the highest recognition that BU bestows upon any faculty member.<\/p>\n

Ashley Mears<\/strong><\/a> (Associate Professor of Sociology)\u00a0earned the 2016 American Sociology Association’s Sociology of the Body and Embodiment Best Publication Award for her article “Girls as Elite Distinction: The\u00a0Appropriation of Bodily Capital<\/a>,” which appeared in the 2015 edition of\u00a0Poetics<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
