Most post-MA students will complete their coursework.<\/li>\n<li>Spring: All students complete their foreign language requirement. Students can transfer credit for a foreign language if it was fulfilled as part of another graduate degree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Year Two<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students begin their four-semester teaching fellowship requirement.<\/li>\n<li>Fall: Post-BA students continue with their coursework.<\/li>\n<li>Spring: Post-BA students continue with their coursework.<\/li>\n<li>Spring: Post-MA students complete their major paper requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Year Three<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All students continue the teaching fellowship requirement<\/li>\n<li>Fall: Post-BA students complete their coursework and the major paper requirement.<\/li>\n<li>Fall: Post-MA students take their qualifying oral exams.<\/li>\n<li>Spring: Post-BA students take their qualifying oral exams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Year Four<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All students receive non-service fellowships.<\/li>\n<li>Students submit their prospectus and begin writing their dissertations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Year Five<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All students receive non-service fellowships.<\/li>\n<li>Students continue writing their dissertations.<\/li>\n<li>Spring: Students will defend their dissertation and graduate!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Years Six and Seven<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students needing additional time to complete their dissertations may find their own funding either at BU or through external fellowships during the sixth and seventh year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Year One All students receive non-service fellowships.
