{"id":5117,"date":"2015-05-26T21:42:04","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T01:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www-staging.bu.edu\/amnesp\/?page_id=5117"},"modified":"2025-08-26T14:54:57","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T18:54:57","slug":"minor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/americanstudies\/academics\/ba_american_studies\/minor\/","title":{"rendered":"Minor in American Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This program offers undergraduates an opportunity to develop their interest in American culture and society in a structured, yet flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>The minor consists of six 4-credit courses, which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CAS AM 200 Introduction to American Studies<\/li>\n<li>One CAS AM course at the 200 level or above<\/li>\n<li>Three courses from American Studies or from one or more of the following affiliated departments or programs: African American Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Earth &amp; Environment, Economics, English, History, History of Art &amp; Architecture, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology, and Women\u2019s, Gender, &amp; Sexuality Studies. These courses must deal with some aspect of American society and must be chosen in consultation with the director of undergraduate studies.<\/li>\n<li>Satisfactory completion of a senior project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The senior project may take the form of a research seminar (CAS AM 501 or AM 502) or an individual Directed Study leading to a senior thesis based on original research or criticism (CAS AM 491 or AM 492).<\/p>\n<p>Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all courses taken toward the minor.
