{"id":5911,"date":"2014-10-02T09:28:10","date_gmt":"2014-10-02T13:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/?page_id=5911"},"modified":"2015-05-22T15:03:25","modified_gmt":"2015-05-22T19:03:25","slug":"expedition3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/education-program\/recruiting-studies\/completed\/expedition3\/","title":{"rendered":"The Expedition 3 Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><a href=\"\/alzresearch\/files\/2014\/10\/Expedition-3-Logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/alzresearch\/files\/2014\/10\/Expedition-3-Logo.png\" alt=\"Expedition 3 Logo\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6039\" height=\"250\" width=\"269\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<h1>The Expedition 3 Study<\/h1>\n<p>This phase 3, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group, bayesian adaptive randomized design and dose regimen-finding study to evaluate safety, tolerability and efficacy of <b>Solanezumab<\/b> in subjects with early Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.<\/p>\n<p>The study drug is called\u00a0<b>Solanezumab<\/b>, a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets amyloid beta.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens during the study?<\/h3>\n<p>A telephone screening will be conducted to determine if you are eligible to come in for an in-person screening visit. This screening visit to determine if you are eligible for the study. As part of the screening procedures, you will have a MRI and a PET scan using Amyvid, an FDA-approved compound to determine the presence or absence of amyloid deposits in the brain.<\/p>\n<p>Patients enrolled in the study receive either the study drug, Solanezumab, or placebo intravenously every four weeks for a period of 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>They will have tests of memory to assess the effects of the study drug, along with MRIs, physical examinations and EKGs to assess for drug safety.<\/p>\n<h3>Where is this study taking place?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/about-us\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">Boston University Medical Center<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Meet the team<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/about-us\/team\/faculty\/stern\/\" target=\"_blank\">Robert A.
