{"id":5183,"date":"2014-07-07T16:07:27","date_gmt":"2014-07-07T20:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/?page_id=5183"},"modified":"2021-01-13T18:40:09","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T23:40:09","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Boston University Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease Research Center (BU ADRC) was established in 1996 as one of 31 centers in the US-funded by the National Institutes of Health to advance research on Alzheimer\u2019s disease and related conditions. The BU ADRC, through its CTE Center, also fosters and supports high-impact, innovative research on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/ctecenter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy<\/a> and other long-term consequences of repetitive brain trauma in athletes and military personnel, including studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the <a href=\"http:\/\/concussionfoundation.org\/\">Concussion Legacy Foundation<\/a> formerly known as the Sports Legacy Institute, and the Department of Defense. The mission of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cte\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CTE Center<\/a> is to conduct state-of-the-art research on CTE, including its neuropathology and pathogenesis, clinical presentation, genetics and other risk factors, biomarkers, methods of detection during life, and methods of prevention and treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The three primary missions of our Center are to:<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Conduct and facilitate cutting-edge Alzheimer&#8217;s disease <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/education-program\/recruiting-studies\/\">research<\/a><br \/>\n2. Enhance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alzresearch\/ctecenter\/care\/\">clinical care<\/a> for Alzheimer&#8217;s disease patients and their families<br \/>\n3.
