Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core

The Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement Core (ORE Core) is responsible for coordinating the educational and outreach activities of the ADRC. The ORE Core provides education about AD to a range of audiences, including health care professionals, family caregivers, ADRC research participants, researchers, and the lay public. Through its educational programs, the ORE Core also seeks to promote involvement in Center research efforts, particularly among African Americans. Core investigators have broad interests and expertise in health education pertaining to AD, including the following areas: early detection and treatment, late-stage treatment and management issues, home safety, illness perceptions, genetics, risk assessment, caregiver interventions, multicultural outreach, and health literacy.

Activities

The Outreach, Recruitment, and Education Core helps sponsor a range of activities, including the following:

  • Community outreach and education
  • Weekly educational emails
  • Education of primary care providers re: detection and treatment of AD
  • Educational conferences for professional and family caregivers
  • Training in dementia research for junior investigators and students
  • BU ADRC Bulletin (Center newsletter)
  • Center website
  • The Ambassador Program (an educational program for Boston students)
  • Education resources for the community
