We head back to campus this fall with energy and optimism, carrying with us new insights about teaching and learning from the past year. As you know, the need for an arts & sciences education\u2014with its emphasis on flexibility of mind and multidisciplinary perspectives\u2014has never been more urgent.<\/p>\n

At the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, we prepare all BU students for a world where nothing is standing still.<\/p>\n

Your generous gifts to the CAS and GRS Dean\u2019s Funds during the pandemic helped strengthen and expand our programs for undergraduate and graduate students alike.<\/p>\n

Thanks to your support, we launched an innovative new social science internship program, where students acquire valuable research and project development skills. We piloted new curricular initiatives, enabling students to work with digitized data sets of historical and cultural collections in BU Hub courses, and seeded new interdisciplinary course offerings, for instance in African American Studies. We invested in initiatives that focus on the holistic development of our students, including their professional training and support for their well-being. We provided doctoral students with new training opportunities, from strategies for sharing their scholarship with the public to the effective use of digital pedagogical methods.<\/p>\n

We could not have done any of that without your help. We are extremely grateful.<\/p>\n

Moving forward, we are bringing a renewed emphasis on our collective humanity. Only by doing so can we thoroughly engage with the enduring questions, bringing the full breadth of arts & sciences to bear in tackling some of the most urgent global challenges of our time.<\/p>\n

As we look ahead, please consider contributing to the CAS and GRS Dean\u2019s Funds, our most flexible funds, which advance areas such as:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Financial aid to ensure a diverse and inclusive student body comprising the most talented students, regardless of their ability to pay<\/p>\n

\u2022 Experiential learning opportunities for undergraduates, including apprenticeships at humanities and social sciences institutions, cultural journals, local government offices, businesses and nonprofits, and research traineeships with interdisciplinary faculty breaking new ground in their fields<\/p>\n

\u2022 Professional development opportunities for graduate students in subjects from inclusive pedagogy to real-world applications of their research, helping prepare them to launch their careers both inside and outside academia<\/p>\n

We ask you to give generously. Our students are our impact. They go on to become the leaders of tomorrow. Your support, as always, helps them get there.<\/p>\n
