Photo by Jackie Ricciardi<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two successful men\u2014one a renowned cardiologist and former president of Boston University, the other a celebrated clarinetist for the Boston Pops\u2014have changed the course of Boston University history.<\/p>\n<p>Lifelong friends <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2023\/bu-president-emeritus-aram-chobanian-dies-at-94\/\">Aram V. Chobanian<\/a> (Hon.\u201906) and Edward Avedisian (CFA\u201959,\u201961) will now be connected forever as the namesakes of BU\u2019s medical school. Thanks to a $100 million gift from Avedisian that will support scholarships, endowed faculty chairs, and cutting-edge research and teaching, the school is being renamed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/\">Boston University Aram V. Chobanian &amp; Edward Avedisian School of Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>University President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/profile\/robert-a-brown\/\">Robert A. Brown<\/a> called it \u201cone of the most remarkable grants in the history of higher education\u201d at a private signing ceremony at his residence in late August to accept the gift and formalize the school\u2019s name change.<\/p>\n<p>The gift \u201cwill transform the medical school,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm\/profile\/karen-antman\/\">Karen Antman<\/a>, dean of the medical school and provost of the Medical Campus. The Aram V. Chobanian &amp; Edward Avedisian School of Medicine Endowed Fund will provide:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignfull\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<ul>\n<li>$50 million to support scholarships for medical students<\/li>\n<li>$25 million to support endowed professorships<\/li>\n<li>$25 million to the Avedisian Fund for Excellence to keep the school at the forefront of research and teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read the full story at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2022\/lifelong-friendship-behind-100-million-gift-to-bu-medical-school\/\">BU Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MED is now the BU Aram V.
