Why should honesty be the foundation of every business?<\/h2>\n

Honesty is the essence of any long-term successful enterprise or relationship. You can\u2019t build a long-term successful business (or even a short-term one) based on dishonest business practices. For the venture to be successful, it must be based on a core of authentic principles and motivating factors that are grounded in reality, otherwise, it won\u2019t hold together.<\/p>\n

Is \u201cfaking it\u201d the same thing as lying?<\/h2>\n

Not always. If you are faking it, you\u2019ve crossed the line between \u201cacting as if\u201d to boost your confidence into doing or saying something at someone else\u2019s expense. If you\u2019re faking it, you\u2019re somehow twisting the truth like lying on your resume or exaggerating the truth about what a product can do, or you are only telling part of the truth about something. You\u2019re not going to make it if you fake it because the truth about your lie will come out.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the first step anyone could take to start applying your advice tomorrow?<\/h2>\n

First, ask yourself as a leader when you recently faked it or stretched the truth, or took a shortcut, and what happened. Even if you weren\u2019t exposed or you weren\u2019t exactly lying but it was still not doing things the right way, how did you feel about it? Are you proud? Anxious?<\/p>\n

Now, ask yourself if you could have a \u201cdo-over\u201d, how would you have handled that situation differently. How would you have solved your problem or dilemma using a different approach? <\/p>\n

Do a reset and move forward. What checks and balances, processes, or steps can you introduce (or re-introduce) to make sure that type of fakery doesn\u2019t creep in again. What do those checks and balances look like, and how can you ensure they are being followed?<\/p>\n
