{"id":11965,"date":"2021-06-10T13:34:46","date_gmt":"2021-06-10T17:34:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/?p=11965"},"modified":"2024-10-23T14:05:32","modified_gmt":"2024-10-23T18:05:32","slug":"blog-bu-connects-a-tale-of-two-terriers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/2021\/06\/10\/blog-bu-connects-a-tale-of-two-terriers\/","title":{"rendered":"A tale of two Terriers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Alisha Snow (Questrom\u201998, COM\u201998)<\/strong>, executive vice president at the market research and consulting firm Smarty Pants, wanted to build her network and mentor fellow BU grads. <strong>Dima Hurlbut (GRS\u201917,\u201920)<\/strong> wanted to make a move from graduate school to the business world.<\/p>\n<p>They both joined BU Connects. And it worked: they connected.<\/p>\n<p>Dima reached out to Alisha to request an informational interview. Alisha accepted, and she says the BU bond helped get the ball rolling when they spoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKnowing that Dima went to BU and valued his experience at Boston University gave us a starting point, so there was an easy way to begin a conversation,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut also,\u201d says Dima, \u201cthe BU Connects platform itself gave us a commonality. In Alisha\u2019s case, she was on there because she was willing to talk to people, and I was on there seeking some advice. So that took away some of the fear of reaching out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As it happened, Alisha\u2019s company was looking to fill a few open positions\u2014and Alisha quickly realized Dima could be a great fit for one of them. Next thing you know, Dima\u2019s job search was over. He\u2019s now a research associate at Smarty Pants.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first time the company found its next hire on BU Connects, but it won\u2019t be the last.<\/p>\n<p>Says Alisha: \u201cIt is top of mind as a great network and resource for finding very highly qualified candidates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, says Dima, \u201cas even more BU alumni get onto the platform, it will become an even more incredible resource for current students and alumni.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who knows?
