Because inclusiveness is a central value of our University.<\/h3>\n<p>A diverse student body, fully reflective of the vibrant and challenging world around us, is one of our great strengths\u2014and one of our great traditions. But it gets harder every year to preserve that tradition.<\/p>\n<p>While BU is becoming ever more competitive (78,769 students applied for 3,268 spots in the Class of 2028), almost half of the young people who gain admission to BU can\u2019t afford it without assistance. We offer aid packages that are as generous as we can make them. Still, the average undergraduate borrower leaves BU with a debt load of more than $30,000.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI am super appreciative of my scholarship and could not be here without it. Donors are so important to students like me.\u201d <cite>Julyssa Villa Machado (CAS&#8217;26)<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, more than ever, we need to take decisive action to ensure that <em>every<\/em> deserving student is able to afford BU.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are many ways to provide opportunity for students at BU:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/giving\/ways-to-give\/century-challenge-scholarship\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Century Challenge<\/a>\u2014for some endowed scholarships, BU will match the good done in your name for 100 years<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/giving\/ways-to-give\/endow\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Endow<\/a> a scholarship, fellowship, or prize<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/giving\/where\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Designate your annual gift<\/a> to scholarship, or to your favorite school or college\u2014they\u2019ll use it for emergency financial aid, conference fees and travel stipends, and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"dar-line\"><\/div>\n<h3>Strengthen our Fellowships<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/alumni\/files\/2025\/09\/YouAreWHY_logo_blackBackground-636x582.png\" alt=\"You Are Why logo with a black background and red and white lettering\" width=\"149\" height=\"136\" class=\"wp-image-27748 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/files\/2025\/09\/YouAreWHY_logo_blackBackground-636x582.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/files\/2025\/09\/YouAreWHY_logo_blackBackground-768x703.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumni\/files\/2025\/09\/YouAreWHY_logo_blackBackground.png 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 149px) 100vw, 149px\" \/>PhD students are at the heart of Boston University\u2019s excellence. They drive original research, important discoveries, and the generation of new knowledge. Just as important, they inspire and mentor undergraduates. At scale, robust investments in graduate students promote innovation and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p><span>Boston University can sustain its own research programs and help build a globally competitive research workforce by expanding funding for PhD fellowships. Gifts of any size to the Future Scholars Fund will be spent at the discretion of the University Provost to award fellowships across the University.
