Well, Class of 2022, you’ve made it! With commencement right around the corner, we’re thrilled to welcome a new generation of Terriers into the BU alumni community. We know the upcoming weeks will be full of well-deserved celebrations, and we’re here to help prepare you for your first steps as a new alum!

Here are five things to do once commencement comes to a close.

1. Step on the BU Seal

For many of you, the myth of the BU seal was one of the first things you learned on your tour as an incoming freshman. Subsequent years were marked with days avoiding the seal as you walked to and from class (and, for others, tempting fate… We see you, seal steppers!) Though no one knows where this myth originated, stepping on the seal is a momentous occasion for graduating seniors and one of the most important photo opportunities for any BU alumni!

In fact, on May 20, 21, and 22 we’ll be offering complimentary, professional photos to graduates as they take their first steps on the BU seal and their first steps as an alum.

2. Create your BU Connects profile

BU Connects is exclusively for Boston University alumni, students, faculty, and staff. This online platform brings together Terriers for personal and professional networking on a global scale and can be an invaluable asset to new alumni who are still in the process of building their own professional network. Below are just a few of the reasons you should activate your BU Connects profile today!

  1. Connect with alumni around the world! BU Connects is home to over 16,000 alumni, students, and faculty/staff, 77% of which have offered to help other Terriers. You can browse the alumni directory based on location, employment, education, and more to find the right connections for you!
  2. Make your job search less daunting. See recent job listings from companies specifically looking to hire BU talent, as well as opportunities for job shadowing, internships and more!
  3. Find a mentor to help guide you on your path to success. Starting to build your network can be challenging, but speaking to an experienced professional in your field can do wonders to help guide important career decisions. BU Connects is the best place to find other alumni eager to mentor Terriers entering the professional world.
  4. Join groups based on your industry or a shared affinity. With thirty-six industry, regional, educational, and other affinity groups, BU Connects is a great place to open a dialogue, share opportunities, and expand your personal and professional networks.

3. Prepare yourself for the working world

We host a slew of career-focused webinars designed to help give Terriers an advantage in laying the groundwork for their careers. Find them all on-demand or check our calendar for the next live event.

4. Stay involved in the BU community

Even if you’re not staying in the Boston area after you graduate, there are plenty of ways to stay active in the BU community. From our social media channels to events across the country, there’s always a way to keep in touch. Follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram to keep up with everything happening in BU’s alumni community.

5. Get ready for Alumni Weekend

Of course, that diploma means that you are cordially invited to our annual Alumni Weekend! There will be special events for 2022 graduates and other young alumni. More information will be available soon, but in the meantime, mark your calendars and sign up to stay up to date on exciting news leading up to this exciting event.
