This semester, you are being asked to learn the details (electron pushing) of one cofactor.  That cofactor is PLP, which is used in many biochemical reactions, and in particular those that involve the catabolism and anabolism of amino acids and nucleotide bases. 

 

The Sapling site has made available animated figures showing the mechanistic steps for several enzymes, including the basic PLP-catalyzed amino transferase mechanism (transaminases).
