Through ethical exploration, creative experimentation, and real-world application, <span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span> provides the tools, knowledge, and community to use AI responsibly and effectively.<\/p>\n<p>In this newsletter, you\u2019ll find the latest events, news, and resources designed to enhance the BU community&#8217;s knowledge of GenAI and how it connects to their teaching, learning, and workplaces.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>ANNOUNCEMENTS<\/h5>\n<h3>Faculty Workshops<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/files\/2025\/11\/3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" tabindex=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The AI Development Accelerator (<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span>), in collaboration with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/excellence\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/excellence\/\" data-outlook-id=\"86719840-3313-487b-acec-03b13ab418f2\">Institute for Excellence in Teaching &amp; Learning<\/a>, is facilitating a series of AI In-Studio Workshops. The first workshop, Introduction to Generative AI in the BU Teaching Context, will focus on the ethical and critical use of GenAI for teaching and learning, and will include an interactive demonstration of TerrierGPT. These workshops are designed to give faculty space to discuss and learn about the role of AI in teaching. Please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/newsandevents\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/newsandevents\/\" data-outlook-id=\"305d7b3b-b558-4cab-8163-d38db8f72e7f\"><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span>website<\/a> for the most current information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We are also in the planning phase of a second AI In-Studio workshop for staff and administration, with a target launch date of January 2026.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>New AI at BU Student Certificate<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/files\/2025\/11\/2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" tabindex=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The AI Development Accelerator (<span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span>), in collaboration with the Institute for Excellence in Teaching &amp; Learning, is launching the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/excellence\/resources-strategies\/artificial-intelligence\/ai-at-bu-student-certificate\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/excellence\/resources-strategies\/artificial-intelligence\/ai-at-bu-student-certificate\/\" data-outlook-id=\"909e161d-2558-463d-95c0-667721a64f92\"> AI at BU Student Certificate<\/a>\u2014a 4-hour, self-paced, and fully online course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of AI and its responsible, ethical, and effective use in academic and professional settings. When students complete the course, they\u2019ll earn a BU-issued AI Certificate\u2014a digital credential they can share on LinkedIn or with employers to demonstrate their AI literacy and readiness to innovate in a technology-driven world.<\/p>\n<p>The course provides students with a shared foundation in AI literacy, covering topics like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding what GenAI is and how it works<\/li>\n<li>Exploring responsible and ethical use in academic contexts<\/li>\n<li>Evaluating the strengths and limitations of AI tools<\/li>\n<li>Understanding and navigating AI policies at BU<\/li>\n<li>Applying GenAI thoughtfully to enhance learning, communication, and creativity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>EVENTS<\/h5>\n<h3>Upcoming <span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span> Symposiums<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/files\/2025\/11\/4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" tabindex=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/excellence\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/excellence\/\" data-outlook-id=\"600395c4-cb30-4b44-bd7a-66e9d46460e9\">Institute for Excellence in Teaching &amp; Learning<\/a>, <span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span> hosts symposiums throughout each semester to showcase how BU faculty are using GenAI to enhance teaching and learning across disciplines. Each session is designed with a primary audience in mind\u2014humanities and social sciences faculty, STEM faculty, business\/education\/communication faculty, or faculty across disciplines for the policy session\u2014and will conclude with a 30-minute networking session with refreshments. As a professor of computer science in the College of Arts &amp; Sciences (CAS) and a former senior associate dean of the faculty for mathematical and computational sciences with over two decades of entrepreneurial experience, John brings a wealth of expertise to the team \u2014 and a vision that will catalyze the development, adoption, and governance of artificial intelligence at Boston University.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span> Gathers Faculty From Across the University to Discuss Effective Artificial Intelligence Policies<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/files\/2025\/11\/5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" tabindex=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, October 1, around 60 faculty gathered on the 17th floor of the Duan Family Center for Computing &amp; Data Sciences for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/2025\/10\/09\/aida-gathers-faculty-from-across-the-university-to-discuss-effective-artificial-intelligence-policies\/%20\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/aida\/2025\/10\/09\/aida-gathers-faculty-from-across-the-university-to-discuss-effective-artificial-intelligence-policies\/%20\" data-outlook-id=\"c5350e38-f0aa-498b-ab7a-18326b88ef91\"><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"outlook-search-highlight\">AIDA<\/span> panel discussion<\/a> about effective artificial intelligence policies across the University. Kevin Gold, associate professor of the practice in the Faculty of Computing &amp; Data Sciences, then moderated the panel which consisted of Michael Dowding, master lecturer in the College of Communication; Andy Fan, senior lecturer in the College of Engineering; David Shawn, master lecturer in the College of Arts &amp; Sciences; and Tal Gross, professor in the Questrom School of Business.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Shipley Academic Innovation Awards: Accepting Applications until November 21<\/h3>\n<p>The Shipley Center, which is part of the Institute for Excellence in Teaching &amp; Learning, is now accepting proposals for enhancing curricula through creative applications of Generative AI (GenAI).
