Susan Bernofsky

Susan Bernofsky has translated fifteen books, including six by Robert Walser as well as novels by Jenny Erpenbeck, Yoko tawada, and Hermann Hesse. She received the 2006 Helen and Kurt Wolff Translation Prize as well as awards and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the NEA, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the Lannan Foundation. The author of Foreign Words: Translator- Authors in the Age of Goethe (Wayne State University Press, 2005), she is currently writing a biography of Walser and working on a novel set in post-Katrina New Orleans.
