{"id":18823,"date":"2021-06-09T11:39:06","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T15:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/africa\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=18823"},"modified":"2023-06-29T10:17:17","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T14:17:17","slug":"paula-mans","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/africa\/profile\/paula-mans\/","title":{"rendered":"Paula Mans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-markjs=\"true\">Paula<\/span> Mans is an art educator and practicing visual artist based in Washington, DC. <span data-markjs=\"true\">Paula<\/span> holds a B.A from Bryn Mawr college and an M.A. in Art Education from Boston University. <span data-markjs=\"true\">Paula<\/span> is also a recipient of the Fulbright Research Award. While <span data-markjs=\"true\">Paula<\/span> is a DC native, she spent many of her formative years and young adulthood living abroad in Tanzania, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Brazil.\u00a0Her experiences throughout the African Diaspora shaped her identity and informed the development of her artistic voice.\u00a0As a visual artist, <span data-markjs=\"true\">Paula<\/span> Mans tells the many stories of the global Black experience through collage. <span data-markjs=\"true\">Paula<\/span> views collage as emblematic of the cultural and historical interconnectedness of the African Diaspora. Just as the dispersed people of the Diaspora are tied together by the common thread of ancestry, in collage, disjointed pieces are fused to communicate one story.
