Honoring the Career, Scholarship and Mentorship of Professor Jim McCann

The African Studies Center will celebrate and honor Professor Jim McCann on Friday, December 9, on the occasion of his retirement from Boston University.

In addition to his current roles as Professor of History and Associate Director for Development at the African Studies Center, Professor McCann has served as Director of the African Studies Center, Chair of the Department of History, and Interim Director of the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, among many other distinctions since joining BU in the 1980s.

The ASC will host a symposium honoring Prof. McCann’s mentorship and scholarship, with Zoom access so colleagues beyond the Boston area may join us. It will be followed by a dinner reception on campus. Details of the event are shared below.
