Register now for Thursday’s Forum 2019: Can We Talk? Dialogue and Debate in the Contemporary Academy<\/strong><\/p>\n

From BU Center for the Humanities Director, Prof Susan Mizruchi:
\nForum 2019 will explore one of the biggest challenges facing\u00a0universities today: the question of how to promote honest\u00a0intellectual exchange. In seeking a topic that would serve the\u00a0Boston University community we concluded that no subject\u00a0was of greater moment than free speech and open debate\u00a0within our own institutional borders.\u00a0Any academic environment depends on its capacity to\u00a0generate and articulate ideas, while protecting the rights\u00a0of its various members\u2014faculty, students, administrators,\u00a0staff\u2014to express and defend those ideas. This capacity,
\nand its status as a value, has become a point of controversy\u00a0on college campuses and a focus of public discourse.\u00a0Our purpose in convening this forum is to address the very\u00a0subjects that are neglected because they are difficult and\u00a0generate conflict.\u00a0We hope that our dialogue about dialogue will provide a\u00a0model of open discussion for the larger academic community\u00a0and the public.<\/p>\n
