Rhodes Professor of Humane Letters in the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Africana Studies and English at Cornell University assesses the activism, writing, and legacy of Claudia Jones (1915\u20131964), a pioneering Afro-Caribbean radical intellectual, dedicated communist, and feminist. Jones is buried in London\u2019s Highgate Cemetery, to the left of Karl Marx\u2014a location that Boyce Davies finds fitting given how Jones expanded Marxism-Leninism to incorporate gender and race in her political critique and activism.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kYdpSleDdbw\">Voices of Black Mobilization in Boston: From Busing to Black Lives Matter<\/a><\/h2>\n<div class=\"responsive-video responsive-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Voice of Black Mobilization in Boston: From Busing to Black Lives Matter\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kYdpSleDdbw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><strong>Originally broadcast Tuesday, March 27th, 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>This round-table discussion will present diverse perspectives on the history of Black mobilization in Boston&#8211;bringing together community leaders who have been doing the work, from organizing around civil rights and the school desegregation in the 1960s and \u201870s to today\u2019s struggle for Black empowerment. Topics to include, African-Americans appropriating African culture, or ethnic minorities appropriating other minority cultures, to broader questions of cultural ownership in the context of racism and inequality.
