Scholars have written about methodological approaches to archives not meant to get at Black life, Black experiences, and especially not Black life of the mind. Michel-Rolph Trouillot’s foundational work is instructive here: that those of us working with archives must both acknowledge and be watchful for how power manifests, and how the curation of the archive distorts and/or erases voices meant to be dispossessed by it.”
