Case and Dean Elsbeth Melville scholarships are awarded to outstanding juniors every spring in support of their senior year. These awards recognize scholarly accomplishment and potential as well as extra-curricular activities that contribute to the University.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarship recipients receive<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>between $3,000.00 and full tuition<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>depending on financial need. Funds can only be applied to undergraduate study. The awards generally support 15 or more juniors each year.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled\u00a0undergraduates in their\u00a0junior year<\/li>\n<li>Minimum GPA of 3.5<\/li>\n<li>All nationalities may apply, but only U.S. citizens are eligible for award money greater than $3,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Selection criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Scholarly Achievements<\/strong>: GPA, coursework, co-curricular activities, research outside of the classroom, conferences, presentations, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extracurricular Involvement<\/strong>: sustained engagement in activities, clubs, or organizations that contribute to the University and the BU community.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Potential for future contributions in their chosen fields<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Application procedures<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>The deadline to apply to the Junior Merit Scholarship is <strong>March 20, 2026<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed scholarship<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bu.infoready4.com\/#freeformCompetitionDetail\/1997605\">application<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Personal statement: Please describe your most important academic interest(s) and extracurricular commitments (1000 words max)<\/li>\n<li>Resume<\/li>\n<li>Unofficial transcript(s)<\/li>\n<li>Three letters of recommendation.\u00a0Two letters should be academic in nature from faculty who know your work well. One letter should address your extracurricular involvement and contributions.\n<ul>\n<li>Students must specify their recommenders\u2019 details and request recommendation letters through the application portal.<span>\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>Note: Recommendation letter requests can be sent through our Infoready application portal after saving your application as a DRAFT.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Once the official letter request is sent, recommenders will receive a link through which they should submit their signed letters addressed to the \u201cCase and Melville Scholarships Selection Committee\u201d by the deadline above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About the awards Boston University&#8217;s Harold C.
