{"id":42494,"date":"2024-07-31T09:22:38","date_gmt":"2024-07-31T13:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/advising\/?page_id=42494"},"modified":"2026-05-01T16:27:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T20:27:37","slug":"orgoprep","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/advising\/educational-resource-center\/resource-guide\/stem-resources\/orgoprep\/","title":{"rendered":"OrgoPrep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Are you looking to strengthen your understanding of Chemistry course content?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>OrgoPrep has been designed with the students in mind, and has been shown to\u00a0<b><em>significantly increase<\/em><\/b>\u00a0student outcomes in Organic Chemistry (CAS CH203, CH211). The program occurs in late Summer, just before the start of Organic Chemistry. It features a hybrid self-study and\u00a0<\/span><i>live<\/i><span>\u00a0webinar format. OrgoPrep\u00a0<\/span>is designed to bridge the gap between the completion of General Chemistry 2 and the beginning of Organic Chemistry 1.<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>OrgoPrep is collaboration between the Chemistry Education teams and the Educational Resource Center; the cohorts are led by an experienced undergraduate peer mentor who has been trained by the Chemistry education faculty and ERC staff.<\/span><span> The result is a one-of-a-kind program, based on both students\u2019 needs and advanced pedagogical tools &#8211; and it\u2019s <strong><em>completely free<\/em><\/strong> for BU students!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Educational Resource Center would like to acknowledge the support provided by Boston University\u2019s<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dli\/about\/about-shipley-center\/\"><strong>Shipley Center for Digital Learning &amp; Innovation<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for this Chemistry Active-learning Resources for Educators (CARE) project.\u00a0 The OrgoPrep program has been overwhelmingly successful thanks, in part, to the CARE videos created with the Shipley Center\u2019s support and guidance.<\/p>\n<h2>What to Expect<\/h2>\n<p><span>Each cohort of OrgoPrep is led by a trained peer mentor. Each week, students will review important and relevant content from previous courses,\u00a0translate the content into Organic Chemistry, and practice the concept in different applications. For each of the six weeks, students will\u00a0complete a self-paced video lesson (about 30 minutes) and a practice worksheet (about 1 hour), before attending a\u00a0live and interactive\u00a0webinar (about 1 hour). We know you have a lot going on, but if you sign up, you\u2019ll get the most out of it by making the commitment to attend every sessions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Do I have to attend the same cohort each week?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nYes, by registering for the program, you are registering for every week, at the same day, at the same time, with the same leader and peers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Do I need to do anything after I register for a cohort?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nYou do not! No preparation is required; we\u2019ll teach you everything you need to know during the course! The week before your course begins, you will receive a short tutorial on how to navigate the interactive video technology and how the program will work.
