{"id":40918,"date":"2021-08-11T12:13:23","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T16:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/advising\/?page_id=40918"},"modified":"2026-08-24T10:49:57","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T14:49:57","slug":"high-impact-practices","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/advising\/academic-planning\/high-impact-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Engaged: High-Impact Practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Experience is our greatest teacher.<\/p>\n<p>National research suggests that college students who engage with a core group of educational experiences acquire in-demand skills that will give them greater confidence in their future career.<\/p>\n<p>These experiences are called <strong><a href=\"\/advising\/files\/2026\/07\/Taxonomy-HIPS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">High-Impact Practices (HIPs)<\/a>. <\/strong>They employ active learning proven to have significant educational benefits. Many HIPs involve <strong>experiential learning<\/strong> &#8211; an approach that engages students in learning by doing.<\/p>\n<p>There are lots of ways to take advantage of these opportunities at BU. Some of them have been built into the BU Hub, so that all undergraduates will experience them. Others must be sought out intentionally. Doing so can deepen your learning and increase your readiness for post-grad life.
