Student Organizations

Diversity at BU means diverse interests too. We create an environment for your interests to blossom. And that includes providing ways for like minds to meet.

With more than 450 student groups on campus, it’s easy to find people who share your interests. Are you looking for a sports club or a professional organization? Do you want to meet people who are passionate about politics or French culture? Maybe you’d like to get involved in a community service group. Or take part in governing your residence. Professional Organizations

Most of BU’s schools and colleges offer their students membership in one or more professional organizations. Some are honor societies recognizing high academic achievement. Others provide valuable opportunities—attending professional conferences nationwide, networking with industry professionals and broadening your understanding of their field.

Engineers, for instance, can join the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) or Engineers Without Borders. Students in the College of Communication can join the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Society of Professional Journalists or the Association for Women in Sports Media, to name a few. If you’re in one of our other schools or colleges, you have options such as the Pre-Law Society, American Hotel & Lodging Association, or International Affairs Association.

See the Student Activities Office website for a complete list of professional organizations. Or visit the website of the school or college of your choice:

Performing Arts Groups

A special note to students interested in music, dance, theater and comedy: Your stage is waiting at BU.

For example, if you play a musical instrument, you can try out for the orchestra or one of five different BU bands. Maybe you’d like to show off your salsa moves in the annual Terrier Dancesport competition. Harmonize with a Hindi a cappella group. Or develop your hidden dramatic talent with Stage Troupe, a theater group strictly for non-theater majors.

We have dozens of student performing organizations to choose from. Most have regular rehearsal times and require a strong commitment. Auditions are generally held during the fall semester.
