Visiting Students

Each year, we admit a limited number of visiting students to our College of Arts & Sciences and Questrom School of Business. To qualify, you must be enrolled at a regionally accredited college or university or have received a bachelor’s degree within the last three years and have a strong academic record.

Deadlines

  • January semester – November 1
  • September semester – March 1

How to Apply

Please submit a completed  Visiting Student Application with a nonrefundable application fee of $80 to:

Boston University Admissions
Attention: Visiting Student Coordinator
233 Bay State Road
Boston, Massachusetts 02215

You may also pay your application fee via wire transfer. In order to submit the application fee via wire transfer, a student must first submit their application and be assigned a BU ID number. Once a student has a BU ID number, they may then go online and submit the wire transfer. Visit the Student Accounting Services website for links to Flywire or Western Union Business Solutions.

Students who wire funds should scan and email a PDF copy of the bank receipt with your name, BU ID number, and the dollar amount to BU Admissions at intadmis@bu.edu. We recommend that international students wire funds well before the payment deadline to allow time for processing.

Please note: attending either the College of Arts & Sciences or the Questrom School of Business as a visiting student does not in any way imply or guarantee future admission to a degree program.

If your application is accepted, you’ll enroll in four courses each semester. Although you won’t be a candidate for a degree, you can live in University residences (if available) and take advantage of many extracurricular activities.

Course Availability

We admit visiting students based on the availability of courses. Priority is given to students whose proposed coursework has a clear scholastic or professional objective. Applicants who wish to register for fewer than four courses should contact BU’s Metropolitan College.
