For more than a quarter century, Boston University\u2019s Metropolitan College (MET) has been training actuaries for satisfying, successful careers in the insurance industry, as well as roles in consulting firms, government agencies, accounting firms, industrial corporations, banks, and financial services companies. We are the only school in New England offering a Master of Science in Actuarial Science, with concentrations in Finance and Insurance, and we also boast a selection of four-course graduate certificates that serve as a fine entry point for those seeking to test the waters or stack credentials toward the master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n

At BU MET, our focus is on developing the skills and insights to help you \u201cthink like an actuary.\u201d Along with providing exposure to practical business and economic principles, our faculty\u2014drawn from the industry and able to share their experience in the field\u2014reinforce the tools and mindset necessary for success, while exploring some of the fiscal and ethical dilemmas often encountered in the process of business decision-making. Our faculty also provide a natural network in one of the nation\u2019s major financial and insurance centers.<\/p>\n
Coursework in the Actuarial Science programs offers important insight on the realities of actuarial work while preparing you to pass tough actuarial exams. In my experience, most of our students will end up taking, and passing, a few exams before they graduate from our program. Coursework can also earn credit toward the Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) requirements of the Society of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society.<\/p>\n
The master\u2019s degree in Actuarial Science can be completed in as few as three semesters. All of our programs are available both online and on campus.
