Requests for additional days must be made to the dean of the student\u2019s school or college.<\/p>\n<p>Requests for bereavement leave are handled by the dean or dean\u2019s designee at each school and college. The dean or the dean\u2019s designee will send a notice of the student\u2019s leave to the student\u2019s instructors. Upon return, the student must contact each faculty member to arrange to make up any missed classwork.<\/p>\n<p>At any point during the student\u2019s original bereavement leave or upon return, the student may decide to request a leave of absence due to the student\u2019s loss. Leaves of absence are granted according to the policies found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/policies\/withdrawal-leave-of-absence-and-reinstatement\/\">Withdrawal, Leave of Absence, and Reinstatement<\/a> section of the University&#8217;s policies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Effective July 1, 2026 Students should be granted up to five (5) weekdays of bereavement leave for the death of a close family member.
