{"id":6343,"date":"2010-08-04T12:09:16","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T16:09:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/?page_id=6343"},"modified":"2026-03-25T15:48:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T19:48:24","slug":"auditing-courses","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/law\/policies\/auditing-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"Auditing Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sidebar\">\n<h3>Contact<\/h3>\n<p>For contact information, please visit the School of Law Registrar&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/about\/offices\/registrar\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/policies\/auditing-courses\/\">University Policy<\/a><\/h2>\n<h2>School of Law Policy<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Auditing BU Law Courses <\/strong><br \/>\nA second- or third-year student may audit a BU Law course, with appropriate notation on the BU Law transcript, provided that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The course is not closed;<\/li>\n<li>The student obtains the instructor\u2019s <em>written <\/em>permission to audit; and<\/li>\n<li>The instructor provides the School of Law Registrar, at the term&#8217;s end, written verification that the student attended throughout the term.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Without Academic Standards Committee permission, a student may not change their registration status after the add\/drop period. Although units are not awarded toward the degree requirement, a student who audits a course or a seminar bears the financial responsibility if they exceed 18 units in a term. An audited class may not conflict with any class a student is officially enrolled. <strong>An audited class may not be converted to a graded course after the end of the add\/drop period.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To audit a class the student must complete and submit Part I of the Audit Permission form by the end of the add\/drop period. This two-part form is available from the Registrar\u2019s Office (Law 502).
