The BA-to-MS program in Remote Sensing &amp; Geospatial Sciences offered through the Department of Earth &amp; Environment combines advanced undergraduate and graduate courses to provide students with a firm grasp of these highly technical fields and opens up exciting career opportunities for students. The program provides qualified juniors and seniors an opportunity to earn a bachelor\u2019s and a master\u2019s degree in one coherent program. The program is open to students pursuing the BA in either Earth &amp; Environmental Sciences (EES) or Environmental Analysis &amp; Policy (EAP).<\/p>\n<p>Students in this bachelor\u2019s-to-master\u2019s program must complete all bachelor\u2019s degree requirements before enrolling as master\u2019s students, although they may take graduate courses while enrolled as undergraduates. Students must register for and earn a minimum of 24 units while enrolled as master\u2019s students. Students may apply up to 8 units (500 level or above) from the undergraduate degree to the master\u2019s degree, subject to any conditions described below. For this bachelor\u2019s-to-master\u2019s program, the bachelor\u2019s degree is conferred by the College of Arts &amp; Sciences and the master\u2019s degree is conferred by the Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences. Students should consult with the Financial Assistance office to learn how entrance into this bachelor\u2019s-to-master\u2019s program might impact their financial aid.<\/p>\n<h2>Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate advanced knowledge of theory of remote sensing and GIS\u2014including sensor systems, basic radiative transfer, cartographic projections and display, and spatial databases\u2014and\/or fundamental concepts in geospatial analysis and modeling techniques.<\/li>\n<li>Quantitatively analyze data to evaluate scientific hypotheses and arguments in remote sensing and geographic information science.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, advanced concepts in remote sensing and geographic information systems.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate understanding of the broader impacts and applications of remote sensing and GIS for natural sciences, social sciences, and society at large.<\/li>\n<li>Apply a range of geospatial analysis techniques, using remote sensing and GIS tools, toward solving quantitative problems in one or more core disciplinary areas such as geography, ecology, environmental sciences, biogeosciences, urban planning, or natural resources management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Students must complete all of the requirements for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/earth-environment\/ba-in-earth-environmental-sciences\/\">BA in Earth &amp; Environmental Sciences<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/earth-environment\/ba-environmental-analysis-policy\/\">BA in Environmental Analysis &amp; Policy.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students must also complete all requirements for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/grs\/programs\/earth-environment\/ma-remote-sensing\/\">MS in Remote Sensing &amp; Geospatial Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Courses taken for graduate units must be taken at the 500 level or higher and completed with a grade of B\u2212 or above.<\/p>\n<p>Students may apply up to 8 units from the undergraduate degree toward the MS.
