Advanced proficiency in Spanish is a prerequisite for admission to the program. Please see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/rs\/\" data-gc-link=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/rs\/\">department website<\/a> for details of supporting documentation to be submitted at the time of application.<\/p>\n<h2>Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n<p>Students graduating with an MA in Hispanic Language &amp; Literatures are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Demonstrate an advanced understanding of language and literature in Spanish in a global context and from all historical periods.<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Demonstrate writing and research skills appropriate to professional use and observe ethical practices.<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Demonstrate a near-native mastery of the Spanish language, including the ability to write in Spanish at a level appropriate to professional use, and to communicate with native Spanish speakers.<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Be prepared to teach specific works and literary concepts at the advanced high school level, and work as language instructors at the college level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Course Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>A minimum total of eight term courses (32 units) at the 500 level or above are required, with a minimum of two seminars (CAS LS 850) per term of coursework.
