Educational Media & Technology Specialization

The Educational Media & Technology (EM&T) doctoral specialization includes Curriculum & Teaching departmental and school-wide requirements in addition to an academic and research concentration in EM&T. Graduates go on to careers as professors, researchers, technology directors, and practitioners in a variety of fields but particularly in higher education, Pre-K–12, and health-related areas. Required coursework in EM&T is customized depending on the student’s background with the following minimum requirements:
- SED EM 550 Introduction to Educational Media & Technology
- SED EM 585 Using Web 2.0 in Teaching and Learning (4 cr)
- SED EM 601 Instructional Design
- SED EM 630 Cyberethics and Policies for Technology Use (4 cr)
- SED EM 670 Advanced Interactive Software Development (2 cr)
- SED EM 680 Distance Education Research and Design
- SED EM 690 Designing Educational Multimedia (Prereqs: SED EM 570, 701, and 713; best taken in conjunction with EM 670) or SED EM 731 Developing E-Learning Courseware
- SED EM 713 Digital Video Production for Education and Training
