Translational Dental Medicine
The Department of Translational Dental Medicine (TDM) is focused on bridging basic research with human endpoints. TDM’s mission is to “catalyze the generation of innovative methods and technologies that will enhance the development, testing, and implementation of diagnostics and therapeutics across a wide range of human diseases and conditions.” The department’s primary focus is to train students and professionals and to conduct innovative and groundbreaking research.
Research at TDM investigates dysfunction mechanisms in oral and other tissues, including identifying new druggable targets, their evaluation in preclinical studies, and establishing a foundation for human studies. The department brings together interdisciplinary expertise, including:
- Salivary glands
- Physiology of bone
- Skeletal mechanobiology
- Head and neck cancer
- Inflammation and immunity
- Tissue regeneration
- Epigenomics
- Connective tissue cell biology
- Tissue-specific mechanisms of disease
The department is located on the second floor of the Center for Advanced Biomedical Research (CABR) at 700 Albany Street on the Boston University Medical Campus.
