The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology (OMFR) at Boston University’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine is dedicated to excellence in education, patient care, and research, with a strong commitment to advancing the field of diagnostic imaging in dentistry.

Oral and maxillofacial radiology is a dental specialty dedicated to the interpretation and clinical application of dental and medical imaging of the jaws, face, and related structures. Through advanced imaging technologies and expert radiologic consultation, the department supports accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning across all dental specialties.

Established in 2023, the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology is dedicated to the didactic and clinical education of predoctoral and postdoctoral students. The department provides comprehensive diagnostic imaging services that are essential for the evaluation and management of dental, oral, and craniofacial conditions.

Services include advanced three-dimensional imaging such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), panoramic and cephalometric imaging, intraoral radiography, digital image analysis, and radiologic consultation. The department supports all clinical and academic departments within the school, ensuring a high standard of education and the delivery of accurate, high-quality diagnostic services to optimize patient care.

In addition, department faculty actively mentor students in research endeavors and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. The department remains engaged in scholarly activities through conferences, invited lectures, and collaborative publications, contributing to the advancement of oral and maxillofacial radiology at both the national and international levels.

OMFR faculty also contribute to teaching several courses and offer lectures and hands-on workshops for postdoctoral students of other specialties.
