BS in Business Administration to MS in Finance
The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-to-Master of Science in Finance (BSBA-to-MSF) program is designed for well-prepared students who wish to obtain a master’s degree in finance by adding a fifth year of intensive study. The program is offered by the Questrom School of Business and provides a streamlined path for Questrom undergraduates to continue directly into the MSF program, reducing both time and costs.
Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Programs are linked bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in which the two degrees are conferred sequentially. This Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program allows students to apply a maximum of 8 units from their undergraduate degree toward the associated master’s degree. The units applied toward the master’s degree must be at the 500 level or above.
Learning Outcomes
Students in the Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program will achieve the learning outcomes of both the BSBA program and the MSF program.
Requirements
Students in this program must fulfill all of the requirements of the BSBA program and all requirements of the MSF degree.
Specific to this Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program, students must also complete:
Upper-Level BSBA Electives
While in the BSBA program, students should complete at least two of the following 500-level finance electives:
- QST FE 550 Private Equity: Leveraged Buyouts
- QST FE 555 AI for Financial Analysis
- QST FE 562 Business Valuation
Students who complete two of these 500-level courses can apply up to 8 units taken during the BSBA program toward 6 units of MSF courses.
Students who complete these 500-level courses may substitute MSF core foundational courses to avoid duplication in content as follows:
- QST FE 550 Private Equity: Leveraged Buyouts (4 units) or QST FE 562 Business Valuation (4 units): QST FE 723 Introduction to Corporate Finance (3 units) can be replaced with a MSF program elective approved by the student’s advisor.
- QST FE 555 AI for Financial Analysis (4 units): QST FE 740 Statistics for Finance (3 units) can be replaced with an MSF elective approved by the student’s advisor.
Students who complete QST SM 275 Management Communications cannot take the equivalent QST ES 610 Communications in Finance (1.5 units). Instead, students take an MSF elective (1.5 units).
Given the variation in courses BSBA students take, application of BSBA courses toward the MSF will be made in consultation with the student’s academic advisor.
Students should complete a minimum of 27 units while enrolled as a graduate student.
