  • CAS LC 586: Chinese Literary Translation Workshop
    Graduate Prerequisites: Graduate standing or consent of the instructor.
    A 500-level workshop on translating literary works from Chinese to English designed for MFA students and advanced undergraduate students. Discusses strategies for rendering context-dependent and idiomatic expressions, translating different literary genres, and syntactical and stylistic choices for the translator.
  • GRS LC 651: Visual Politics: Propaganda Art, Literature, and "Model Films" during the Chinese Cultural Revolution 1966-1976
    Graduate Prerequisites: Admission to the MFA program in Literary Translation, or graduate standing and consent of the instructor.
    A study of "model films," poster art, and literature during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. A critical approach to the larger cultural and political context of socialist art and literature as well as its legacy in China today.
  • GRS LC 680: Modern Chinese Literature & Film
    Graduate Prerequisites: Graduate standing.
    A seminar on the major works of modern Chinese literature and cinema from the May Fourth period to the present, with a focus on close reading and visual analysis. Effective Fall 2019, this course fulfills a single unit in each of the following BU Hub areas: Aesthetic Exploration, Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy.
