Fitness Instructor Certification Prep Class

This class is designed to help you prepare to take the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA) Group Exercise Examination. You will learn how to create innovative fitness classes to inspire and motivate people in a group based fitness class. The course includes practical and theoretical seminars in anatomy and physiology, body alignment, sports nutrition, and exercise physiology. Workshops on warming-up, resistance training methods, athletic conditioning drills, Bosu and stability ball training, and flexibility techniques will be presented throughout the semester. It is required that to successfully pass the AFFA Group Fitness Examination you must purchase the AFAA Principles of Group Fitness Instruction 2nd Edition by the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM). The textbook fee is $100 which must be paid on the FitRec website by the first class. There may be an opportunity for individuals who successfully complete this course and pass the AFFA Group Exercise Certification to teach FitRec PDP fitness classes or FitPass classes. 2 cr.
