Minor in Journalism

The minor in Journalism encompasses focus areas in:

  • News-Editorial
  • Broadcast
  • Photo
  • Magazine

Prerequisite: Completion of COM CO 201, Introduction to Communication Writing, with a C or better before declaring the minor. Students must have the Department of Journalism sign off on the COM Minor Form after the prerequisite course is completed.

Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 in all courses taken toward the COM minor.

Required Courses

Six required courses (in addition to COM CO 201):

Two required courses:

  • COM JO 307 Newswriting and Reporting I or COM JO 250 Fundamentals of Journalism
  • COM JO 357 History and Principles of Journalism or COM JO 525 Media Law and Ethics

Plus four 4-credit COM JO courses at the 300 level or higher.
