In total, students should be enrolled in a minimum of 16 BU units during their semester in Dublin. Please see information below regarding selecting courses and unit equivalency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>STEM Courses at DCU<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At DCU, courses are called modules and their units are called ECTS. Students on this program are required to take a minimum of 20 ECTS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students on the program receive the following BU unit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>3 BU units for any 5 ECTS course<\/li><li>4 BU units for any 7.5 ECTS course<\/li><li>5 BU units for any 10 ECTS course<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcu.ie\/placement\/study-abroad-which-modules-can-you-choose\">DCU&#8217;s module catalog<\/a>&nbsp;for a list of modules divided by colleges\/streams within DCU.&nbsp; Students are able to select from two colleges\/streams within DCU. Students can either select from &#8220;Engineering and Computing\u201d (ECSAO) or &#8220;Science &amp; Health\u201d (SHSAO). Students must choose one college\/stream\u2014students cannot take classes from both colleges\/streams. Within each college\/stream you will find:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>List of Modules<\/li><li>List of Electives.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are only allowed to take 1 course from the list of electives and this is optional. Most students select all their courses from the List of Modules as they are more major specific. Please note that \u201csemester 1\u201d refers to fall and \u201csemester 2\u201d refers to spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>BU Dublin Center Elective Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are required to choose one of the below courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container course hub\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\" style=\"overflow: hidden;\">\n<h6 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"button\" style=\"cursor: pointer;\" tabindex=\"0\"><span class=\"course-code\">CAS EN 392<\/span><br><span class=\"course-title\">Modern Irish Literature<\/span><\/h6>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>This course will introduce students to key writers in modern Irish Literature concentrating on the cultural, political and historical contexts of each of the works we examine. We will explore prose, poetry, drama and the short story. Students will be introduced to the discipline-specific terms of Literary Studies and will employ analytical and interpretive skills in evaluating the literary and the socio\/historical significance of these works.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Units:<\/strong> 4<\/li>\n<li class=\"hub-course\"><strong>BU Hub areas:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Aesthetic Exploration<\/li>\n<li>Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container course hub\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\" style=\"overflow: hidden;\">\n<h6 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"button\" style=\"cursor: pointer;\" tabindex=\"0\"><span class=\"course-code\">CFA AR 340<\/span><br><span class=\"course-title\">The Arts in Ireland<\/span><\/h6>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>Offers students the opportunity to study and experience the most vibrant aspects of visual art and music  in Ireland. The music strand provides an introduction to the structure, characteristics, scope, and history of Irish traditional music. The areas of rhythm and melody and the methods by which Irish music is taught will be covered in the practical workshop section of each class. For part two of the course, students study visual arts, which affords students an opportunity to study and experience the most vibrant aspects of the visual arts in Ireland.
