Each course carries four Boston University units. Students will receive up-to-date syllabi when their courses begin.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Core Phase Elective<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students choose from one of the following courses.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container course hub\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\" style=\"overflow: hidden;\">\r\n<h6 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"button\" style=\"cursor: pointer;\" tabindex=\"0\"><span class=\"course-code\">CAS AH 374<\/span><br\/>\r\n<span class=\"course-title\">Australian Art &amp; Architecture<\/span><\/h6>\r\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n\r\nAustralia owns the world\u2019s oldest continuing art tradition (indigenous Australian art) and the youngest tradition. This course focuses on key artists, in an historical and an international context, against themes of landscape, urbanism, abstraction, realism, the noble savage, and modernism.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Units:<\/strong> 4<\/li>\r\n \t<li class=\"hub-course\"><strong>BU Hub areas:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Aesthetic Exploration<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container course hub\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\" style=\"overflow: hidden;\">\r\n<h6 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"button\" style=\"cursor: pointer;\" tabindex=\"0\"><span class=\"course-code\">CAS EC 464<\/span>\r\n<span class=\"course-title\">The Pacific Rim: Economic and Political Orders<\/span><\/h6>\r\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n\r\nThe course focuses on the origins and dynamics of the \u2018miracle\u2019 Asia\/Pacific economic growth, emphasising its impact on Australia. This region was the crucible for a global shift in political, economic and strategic power from the \u2018developed\u2019 western economies to Asia\/Pacific.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Units:<\/strong> 4<\/li>\r\n \t<li class=\"hub-course\"><strong>BU Hub areas:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Critical Thinking<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container course hub\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\" style=\"overflow: hidden;\">\r\n<h6 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" role=\"button\" style=\"cursor: pointer;\" tabindex=\"0\"><span class=\"course-code\">CAS PO 260<\/span>\r\n<span class=\"course-title\">The Australian Political System<\/span><\/h6>\r\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\nAn introduction to the study of Australian politics and government, focusing on basic institutions such as Federation, the Constitution, pressure groups, political parties, Parliament, and Cabinet; and the major political institutions and processes in Australia; approaches used in the study of politics; and experience and expertise in oral and written analysis. Suter.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Units:<\/strong> 4<\/li>\r\n \t<li class=\"hub-course\"><strong>BU Hub areas:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2>Internship Phase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students participate in Sydney&#8217;s local work life in a range of Australian and multinational businesses and organizations. Students will be at their internships four days a week and will undertake coursework to support the academic objectives of the internship program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Business\/Economics\/Finance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Gain experience in general business\/operations, marketing, small business management, entrepreneurship, HR, finance\/accounting, or economic research, by interning with Australian small businesses, corporations, or start-ups. Past internships have included Credabl, Solutions2You, RSM Australia, Livelo, and Smartgroup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong>&nbsp;Placements in finance\/accounting and economic research are limited and highly competitive. Students must have relevant coursework\/qualifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The above are examples of past internship placements only. While BU Study Abroad guarantees an internship to program participants, specific placements may not always be available. Likewise, internships may be available in academic areas not listed.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Internship Course<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Study Abroad will enroll students in a non-unit Hub co-curricular and a four-unit internship course, which includes a classroom component. Placements are contingent upon the students&#8217; experience, professional interests, and relevant academic history, as well as the availability of opportunities in any given term; flexibility is essential.
