She has received several awards for creative writing, including the 2008 and 2010 May Merrill Miller Award for Poetry, the 2010 Ruth Brill Award for short fiction and the 2010 Falling Leaves Award. Most recently she was awarded the 2012 Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship and was a semifinalist for the Dzanc Books \/ Guernica International Literary Award. She has worked as an Editorial Assistant for AGNI, Los Angeles Magazine, and Truthdig.<\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<h1>IN USHUAIA<\/h1>\n<p>If you can find the southernmost<br \/>\npoint in your mind, where the sun<br \/>\nstrains to heat and commodores swarm<br \/>\nthe beach, where crab takes on a softer<br \/>\nname and clay recovers everything,<br \/>\nthere\u2019s a place you\u2019ve dreamt, a rounded<br \/>\npeak where instead of climb you can lie<br \/>\non ancient tufts growing a centimeter<br \/>\nper lifetime, and fall asleep with your back<br \/>\nto the earth as the rain turns to snow before<br \/>\nyour frosted eyes. If you arrive at that corner<br \/>\nof your memory that even Magellan failed<br \/>\nto discover, where guano makes the islands<br \/>\nshine and sea lions love three days<br \/>\nat a time, if you take the recondite trail<br \/>\nthat culminates in a sea you never thought<br \/>\nyou\u2019d reach and dance with strangers<br \/>\nnext to their SUV as if there is no end<br \/>\nto this thing, there, between the black<br \/>\nlagoon and lenga beech, you\u2019ll see you<br \/>\nand me feeding crackers to a frozen beast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Natasha Hakimi holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Boston University and B.A.\u2019s in Spanish and English with a creative writing concentration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
