The astronauts read Genesis<br \/>\nover the airwaves to the listening world,<\/p>\n<p><em>And in the beginning God created the heavens <\/em><br \/>\n<em>and the earth<\/em>, tenderly, with a Texan twang,<\/p>\n<p>as travelers, having crossed oceans, stand on a cliff<br \/>\nsquinting into the distance, trying to see home.<\/p>\n<p>__________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHLOE MARTINEZ&#8217;s\u00a0poetry has appeared in\u00a0<em>The Cortland Review<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Normal School, <\/em>and<em> The Collagist<\/em>, and is forthcoming in <em>Another and Another: An Anthology from the Grind Daily Writing Series <\/em>(Bull City Press, 2012).
