The same<\/span><br \/>\n<span>one you mentioned<\/span><br \/>\n<span>near the end, subtle<\/span><br \/>\n<span>as a cat\u2019s yawn?<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Do you remember<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Miss Essie crying?<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Pope John Paul II had died;<\/span><br \/>\n<span>we were in the living room,<\/span><br \/>\n<span>and she was crying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I am just now learning<\/span><br \/>\n<span>loss, and there\u2019s fresh honey<\/span><br \/>\n<span>on the roadside.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Do you think his world<\/span><br \/>\n<span>is ending? It\u2019s just before<\/span><br \/>\n<span>a rain, and he is selling honey<\/span><br \/>\n<span>from his truck bed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Say something about our yellow<\/span><br \/>\n<span>house and Charlie<\/span><br \/>\n<span>in the yard\u2014 something about<\/span><br \/>\n<span>our beautiful life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Say something about catching gar<\/span><br \/>\n<span>with cotton balls,<\/span><br \/>\n<span>how it snares up in their teeth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I think the world will end<\/span><br \/>\n<span>with hound dogs baying.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>I\u2019m not so sure it ends<\/span><br \/>\n<span>like this.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Do you still believe in God?<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Some days I do. Do you<\/span><br \/>\n<span>remember<\/span><br \/>\n<span>our beautiful life?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Do you remember the chicken coop?<\/span><br \/>\n<span>This feels like the end<\/span><br \/>\n<span>of the end.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>We are barefoot<\/span><br \/>\n<span>in the kitchen. The cutting board<\/span><br \/>\n<span>is always out.<\/span><br \/>\n<span>We are drunk and need no sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Brian Flynn is a poet from Louisiana.
