You\u2019re not used<br \/>\nto these landscapes:<\/p>\n<p>the moon as source,<br \/>\nnot shadow, not mirror.<\/p>\n<p>Hollow barks suited<br \/>\nto something larger.<\/p>\n<p>Something between desert<br \/>\nand canyon, landscape<br \/>\nindeterminable, unprompted.<\/p>\n<p>And you\u2019ve not died.<br \/>\nJust become others:<\/p>\n<p>the cook at Tee-Pee Drive-In,<br \/>\nmy boyfriend at 2 p.m.,<\/p>\n<p>the child whose fallen<br \/>\nbehind her parents,<\/p>\n<p>too short or too slow,<br \/>\nbut not forgotten.<br \/>\nThis is my pilgrimage:<\/p>\n<p>to discover you<br \/>\nin the entirety of your roles,<\/p>\n<p>to catalog not country<br \/>\nbut characters.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Leanne Hoppe holds an MFA in poetry from Boston University and works as a teacher, editor, and translator in Cleveland.
