I took it to mean Messi<br \/>\nwould steal behind United\u2019s back four<\/p>\n<p>and score.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Every morning around five:<br \/>\na few pill bottles, the Ott-Lite, a coffee<br \/>\nmug. Crepuscular<\/p>\n<p>motherfucker. I wonder if you\u2019ll ever<br \/>\nlet me get to six a.m.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>In Vietnam I think they would\u2019ve called<br \/>\nyou little tiger. I think you would\u2019ve made<br \/>\nsome farmer a little money.<\/p>\n<p>Severed rat tails by the bunch saving rice crops.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>With a gob of turkey fat in your mouth<br \/>\nyou leap down off<br \/>\nthe counter.<\/p>\n<p>Mighty hunter. The other cats never<br \/>\ntake their eyes off you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Scuttle<\/h2>\n<p>Rats can scuttle; they can also<br \/>\nbound. But unlike squirrels,<br \/>\nwho also bound, rats scatter<br \/>\nmuch faster when a human<br \/>\nsuddenly interjects itself<br \/>\nand makes a scene, revealing fruit<br \/>\nsprinkled naked at the curb.<br \/>\nSquirrels, when they scatter<br \/>\nand reach a safe distance,<br \/>\nslow their bound, like a train<br \/>\nfading into a station, welcomed by<br \/>\na scuttle on the drum\u2014stage<br \/>\nintroduction for the rodent\u2019s<br \/>\nscuttle across the lawn<br \/>\nbefore bounding, becoming<br \/>\nflexibly upright and entering<br \/>\nflight and landing for its<br \/>\nclimb up the skinny trunk<br \/>\nof a crabapple tree.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Duy\u00a0Doan (Poetry &#8217;10) is the author of\u00a0<em>We Play a Game<\/em>, winner of the 2017 Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize.
