Welcome to the Multi-Scale Tissue Biomechanics Lab

The Multi-Scale Tissue Biomechanics Lab investigates the mechanics and mechanobiology of the extracellular matrix (ECM) at multi-scale using both experimental and advanced computational modeling techniques. The ECM in blood vessels plays a significant role in governing the mechanical behavior of these dynamic soft tissues. They have extremely complex hierarchical three-dimensional structures and there exists a tremendous interdependence between the ECM’s compositional, structural, and mechanical properties. Generally, cardiovascular disease progression originates from alterations in blood vessel dynamics due to biological remodeling of the ECM. So, our lab investigates the mechanobiology of arterial ECM to discover crucial insights to cardiovascular pathophysiology.
